Chef Lucero (Luz) and brother Luis Martinez born in Mexico City identified a niche in the market for authentic Mexican cuisine and open Zocalo along their family in1995. Chef Luz moves to NYC 2009 to challenge herself with a big role as Executive Chef at the acclaimed Tenor Placido Domingo and Chef Richard Sandoval restaurant, Pampano. She would collect many experiences through this bigger corporation that put her through many events and scenarios including TV, from doing demos to participating in FoodNetwork shows like “Chopped”. Chef Luz returns to Atlanta in 2020 to join once again brother (and twin) Luis at Zocalo and from there together embarked in new ventures, opening Taqueria La Luz in 2021 in West Midtown and three years later Luze Mexicano Cocina in East Atlanta.
